2017 Provincial Disc Golf Championship Announced
Peterborough, Ontario has been chosen as the host city for the 2017 ODSA Provincial Championship. Tournament Director Karl Forbes and the Peterborough Disc Golf Club submitted an utterly spectacular bid to host the championship, detailing local amenities, accommodations, infrastructure, fundraising schedule and a summer-long "grow the sport" initiative leading up to the event to garner local interest and parlay the championship into an opportunity to further local investment in the sport. As the recipient of the "Fournier Award" in 2016, Forbes is no stranger to running fantastic events.
The Championship will take place over the 3-day August long weekend (5th to 7th) and include 5 rounds of disc golf. Competitors will compete at Riverview DG Course, Viamede DG Course, TinLid DG course and a special, brand new 18 hole permanent championship-calibre course currently under development just minutes north of the city. The new course, currently deemed "Project 15", is set to launch in August and consists of beautiful par threes, fours and fives that traverse over 8000 feet of quarry, open field and hardwood forest alike and is sure to surpass golfers wildest expectations. The 4 courses being used for the championship complement each other and will ensure that each champion has thoroughly been tested and completely earned their title... Ontario golfers qualified for the championship are certainly in for a fantastic experience. The championship is being run as a PDGA A-Tier which means the pro payout will be topped-up handsomely with added cash and extend to the top 50% of the field on top of being provided with a commemorative player's pack. The Amateur field will play for a 40% deep merch-out through Tinlid disc golf and receive a stellar player's pack just for registering. The PDGA Canada has already donated $1500 to the event and the fine-tuned machine that is the Peterborough Disc Golf Club has already mobilized and begun making the most of their well-established sponsorship base. Golfers not yet qualified for the 2017 ODSA Provincial Championship will have one more chance to obtain their spot in a newly-implemented "Last Chance Qualifier" to take place on the Saturday that Rivermede traditionally would (April 22nd). More information regarding the qualifier will be posted shortly. The Peterborough Disc Golf Club and ODSA plan to set a new bar for the provincial championships this year and aim to give all qualified competitors an experience they won't soon forget.
